We reported on WordPress 4.0 – Benny it’s great new improvements in September. Those included enhanced post editor, improved media management etc. WordPress 4.1 is expected to be released later this month (December 2014) and is set to come with yet more changes and a new default theme.
So what are we going to see?
First up – the new theme – Twenty Fifteen
WordPress 4.1 will come with Twenty Fifteen – the new default theme for WordPress.
Twenty Fifteen is a simple blog theme with the emphasis on the reader. To make it more internationally appealing it uses Google’s Noto Serif and Sans fonts which support many languages and keeping a simple layout and structure means that customisation is really straight froward. Users can select from different colour schemes, change headers and add background images.
Language Packs
Sticking with the international vibe, in WordPress 4.0 we saw language selection pop up during the installation process (so now when we choose British English we not longer send items to ‘Trash’, we send them to the ‘Bin’). WordPress 4.1 will make it even easier, allowing users to change the language from Settings > General screen.
Inline Image Editing
Aligning images in the WordPress post editor has always been a little tricky. With V4.1 users will be able to click on an image and instantly view alignment options, rather than having to go to a separate dialogue.
That’s just a brief roundup of what you can expect to see in the next release – we may just have to wait and see!
